Privacy Policy

Last Updated: January 15, 2025

At Incisive Thought, we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our budget control platform. We're based in Taiwan and comply with local data protection regulations, but we've written everything here in plain English so you know exactly what's happening with your data.

Information We Collect

When you sign up for our services, we need certain information to create your account and help you manage your finances. Here's what we gather and why.

Account Information

This is the basic stuff we need to get you started. Your name, email address, and phone number help us verify your identity and stay in touch when needed. We also collect your password, which we encrypt before storing—we never see it in plain text.

Financial Data

Since we're helping you control your budget, we need access to your financial information. This includes bank account details you choose to link, transaction histories, spending categories, and budget goals you set. We only collect what's necessary for the service to work properly.

Usage Information

Like most online services, we track how you interact with our platform. This includes your IP address, browser type, pages you visit, and features you use. It helps us understand what's working and what needs improvement.

Device Information

We collect basic details about the device you're using—operating system, device type, and unique identifiers. This helps us keep your account secure and spot any unusual activity.

How We Use Your Information

Every piece of data we collect serves a specific purpose. We don't gather information just to have it sitting around.

  • Providing and maintaining our budget control services, including real-time tracking and spending analysis
  • Processing your transactions and generating financial reports based on your activity
  • Sending you important updates about your account, unusual spending patterns, or budget alerts you've set up
  • Improving our platform by analyzing how features are used and where people get stuck
  • Detecting and preventing fraud or unauthorized access to your account
  • Complying with legal obligations under Taiwan's Personal Data Protection Act
  • Responding to your support requests and helping resolve technical issues

We don't sell your personal information to third parties. That's not our business model, and frankly, it goes against what we stand for.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

Sometimes we need to share information with other companies to make our service work. But we're selective about who we work with and what they can access.

Financial Institutions

When you connect your bank account, we use secure APIs to pull transaction data. Your bank sees that you've authorized us to access this information, but we never share your Incisive Thought password with them.

Service Providers

We work with companies that handle hosting, data storage, email delivery, and customer support tools. These providers can only access information needed to perform their specific tasks, and they're contractually obligated to protect your data.

Legal Requirements

If we receive a valid legal request from Taiwan authorities or need to comply with a court order, we may need to disclose your information. We'll notify you when possible unless prohibited by law.

Important Note: We will never share your financial data with marketing companies or advertising networks. Your spending habits are your business, not theirs.

Data Security Measures

Protecting your financial information is our top priority. Here's what we do to keep your data safe.

  • All data transmitted between your device and our servers uses TLS 1.3 encryption
  • Financial information is encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption standards
  • Access to our databases is restricted to essential personnel only, with multi-factor authentication required
  • We conduct regular security audits and penetration testing to identify vulnerabilities
  • Our systems are monitored 24/7 for suspicious activity or unauthorized access attempts
  • We maintain secure backups stored in geographically separated data centers within Taiwan

But security isn't just on us. You should use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication on your account. And please, don't share your login credentials with anyone.

Your Rights and Choices

Under Taiwan's Personal Data Protection Act, you have specific rights regarding your personal information. Here's what you can do.

Access Your Data

You can request a copy of all personal information we hold about you. We'll provide this within 30 days in a readable format. There's no charge for your first request each year.

Correct Inaccurate Information

If something in your account is wrong, you can update most details directly through your settings. For changes that require verification, contact our support team at support@incisivethought.com.

Delete Your Account

You can request account deletion at any time. We'll remove your personal information within 30 days, though we may retain certain data for legal compliance or fraud prevention for up to 7 years as required by Taiwan financial regulations.

Opt Out of Marketing

We occasionally send tips about budgeting or new features. You can unsubscribe from these emails anytime by clicking the link at the bottom. You'll still receive important account notifications and security alerts.

Withdraw Consent

If you've given permission for specific data processing activities, you can withdraw that consent. Keep in mind this might limit certain features that depend on that data.

Data Retention

We don't keep your information forever. Here's how long we hold different types of data.

Data Type Retention Period Reason
Account information Duration of account plus 7 years Legal compliance and dispute resolution
Transaction data Duration of account plus 7 years Financial record-keeping requirements
Usage logs 24 months Security monitoring and service improvement
Support communications 3 years after resolution Quality assurance and reference
Marketing preferences Until withdrawal of consent Respecting your communication choices

Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. Some are essential for the site to work, while others help us understand how people use our platform.

Essential Cookies

These keep your session active and remember your login status. Without them, you'd need to log in every time you click a link. They don't track you across other websites.

Analytics Cookies

These help us understand which features are popular and where people encounter problems. The data is aggregated—we're looking at patterns, not individual behavior.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies will make the site pretty much unusable.

International Data Transfers

Your data is primarily stored on servers located in Taiwan. However, some of our service providers operate infrastructure in other countries. When data leaves Taiwan, we ensure adequate protections are in place.

We use standard contractual clauses approved by Taiwan authorities and work only with providers who meet stringent data protection standards. If you're accessing our service while traveling abroad, your data will still flow through our Taiwan-based systems.

Children's Privacy

Our service isn't designed for children under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from minors. If you're a parent and believe your child has created an account, please contact us immediately at support@incisivethought.com, and we'll delete it.

Budget management requires linking bank accounts and handling financial data—activities that should be done by adults or with direct parental supervision.

Changes to This Policy

We update this policy occasionally as our services change or regulations evolve. When we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email and display a notice on our platform for at least 30 days.

The "Last Updated" date at the top shows when the current version took effect. We recommend checking back periodically, especially if you're concerned about how your data is handled.

If you continue using our service after changes take effect, we'll consider that as acceptance of the updated policy. If you disagree with the changes, you can close your account before they become binding.
